Trans fat is still widely used in the food industry. It makes food taste better and last longer in the stores – but it has a nasty effect on the human body!

Andrea Giancoli, spokesperson for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly The American Dietetic Association), says “Trans fats raise your bad cholesterol just like saturated fats, but they also increase inflammation and lower the good cholesterol that protects us against heart disease”.

We are happy to say that today, lot of products with trans fat are gone from the market as a lot of restaurant chains have stopped frying food in hydrogenated oils because of the bad press they have been getting after the trans fat was discovered dangerous. WARNING – Fat Foods Can make Us Seemingly Happy

A recent study led by Dr. Lukas Van Oudenhove of the University of Leuven and published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation shows that fat foods can decrease sad emotions. We all know that if you´re unhappy, it is easy to buy a snack or two. It is bad for health, but it seems like the body likes it, at least short term.

Twelve slim people were connected to gastric feeding tube administering either fatty acid or a saline solution directly into their stomachs. Then, they got to listen to sad music before the intragastric infusion took place. The result was that the people who got the fatty acid reported feeling 50 percent less sad than the ones who got the salt solution!

Fat is dangerous, it is hard to fight the signals of the body itself. We believe this study is very interesting, and it shows that we must work harder and keep focused in our fat loss efforts. New Nutrition Labels Will Be Put Into Practice This Year

Nutrition labels are a key thing for most dieters when buying food. Anyone preparing for a healthy diet reads them, and they do it for a good reason. 50% of all shoppers (dieters and non dieters) are checking out the ingredient lists and learning on percentages of fat, cholesterol, fiber, protein, sugar, and vitamins before buying a new brand.

This is great, but labels are often misleading – making you think you are buying a healthy product when in fact it will make you gain weight instead of losing it! Eating the wrong food will effectively keep you from reaching your goal of having a slim and attractive body. This is bad marketing. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently adressed this problem and forced the US food industry develop front-of-the-package labeling systems that will be put into use later in 2011. These new systems are designed by The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) and the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), and  will display calories, saturated fat, sugar and sodium.

Many brands also display ingredients that are appealing to consumers at the front of the package. It can be nice stuff such as fiber, vitamins or proteins.  The old type of nutrition labeling will still be printed on the back or side of the packaging. Just like we are used to having it.

We welcome these developments as it makes everything a lot easier for the consumer. If you want to lose fat you have to maintain a healthy low fat and low sugar diet. You simply cannot keep on having that old lifestyle that made you overweight in the first place, what you must do here is to take in less calories and burn more. The key things for successful fat loss are a healthy diet, some exercise and a good fat burner to turbocharge the whole process.

Just observing the labels is a good start, though. Journal of Consumer Affairs states that people who don´t exercise but still read the labels on the food packages and opt for low fat food have a better chance of losing weight than those who never read the labels.
